We’re not as stuck as we think we are. In order to become unstuck, we often need a good dose of perspective to help propel us forward. So in order to gain this perspective, let’s close our eyes, and imagine we’re 30 to 40 years older than we are now.
When we look at our younger selves, what do we wish we had done? What do we wish we hadn’t done? What changes do we wish we had made? What dreams do we wish we had followed? When people grow older and look back with regret, more often than not, they regret the things they didn’t do more than the things they did do.
By putting ourselves in that place, 30 to 40 years older, and by looking back to the here and now, we give ourselves this incredible opportunity to change the outcome. It’s like hopping into a time machine, going back and changing the course of history.
Sometimes this is exactly what we need to propel us into making that change or trying that thing or following that dream that when looking back, we wished we would have changed, tried or followed in the first place. The best part about it is that we still have time. We can still move forward and we can still have that happy ending. We just have to give ourselves that dose of perspective and then just do it.
